In system software versions 7.5 and maybe 7.5.1, File Buddy can be substituted for the systemΓÇÖs Find File utility by doing the following:
1. Rename a copy of File Buddy ΓÇ£Find FileΓÇ¥ and place it in the Apple Menu Items folder. An alias will not work. It must be a copy of File Buddy.
2. Make sure the System 7.5 extension ΓÇ£Find File ExtensionΓÇ¥ is in the Extensions folder.
If File Buddy launches and sees that its name is ΓÇ£Find FileΓÇ¥, it goes into a special mode in which it ignores the launch option set in the Preferences dialog and automatically opens the Find window at launch. Thereafter, anytime File Buddy comes to the foreground, it will reopen the Find window if it has been closed and no other File Buddy window is in front.
Unfortunately, this trick doesnΓÇÖt work for me in 7.5.2.
Users of Non-English systems:
I have not tested the above in a non-English version of the system software, but early feedback indicates a little more effort will be required in that situation. As of the current version, this requires making changes to File Buddy and the systemΓÇÖs Find File extension with a resource editor. As soon as I determine exactly what needs to be done, I will teach File Buddy to do it for you.
